This weekend Mission CrossFit SA had two events that athletes were participating in. The MCFSA team competed in the Alamo City Throwdown hosted by River City CrossFit and ended up taking 11th place out of 30 teams. The day was long and grueling, but our guys and gals stuck with it! Congrats to the team on a strong and successful day.
Just an hour up the road, our own Joshua Arsate (17 years old) was competing in only his 3rd olympic lifting competition ever to qualify for his second, yes I said SECOND national event. He has qualified for USA Youth Nationals 2 months back and realized he was only a few kilos away from qualifying for Junior Nationals as well. He missed qualifying last weekend in Austin with Coach Drew, but stuck to his guns and trained for another week proving he deserved to qualifying this past weekend. He traveled to San Marcos and competed at Texas State University and ended up qualifying for USA Junior Nationals with a 167kg total between Snatch and C&J at 62kg body weight! Wow! He snatched 70kg, 72kg and missed 75kg, then went 90kg, 95kg, and missed 100kg on the Clean & Jerk. Incredibly impressive for a 17 year old who weighs in at 136lbs. He will be competing at Junior Nationals in January 2014 and Youth Nationals later in 2014. Make sure to congratulate him this week!
