“I started CrossFit in January 2012 and can say it has changed my life completely. After running and training for the SA marathon, I was looking for that new challenge, to try something that was going to push me mentally and physically each day and CrossFit met all the criteria I was looking for. The first month and even a few WOD’s after, I felt this was just something I wouldn’t get. Olympic and dynamic lifting were either brand new or skills I hadn’t done since high school. I would leave MCFSA so frustrated because I wanted to be better and it was a slow learning process. Even with this though, through the help of the coaches and my determination, things improved. I became stronger, movements were less robotic, and I could start to see the results. Each day I would push myself to do an extra rep or increase weight. That challenge I was looking for was being realized. Today, a day doesn’t go by that I don’t want to go to MCFSA or do CrossFit work. It has become a way of life. Drew, Nick, and the other coaches will do whatever they can to get you where you want to be, but you have to do the work. Once you get started, you are hooked. CrossFit is a lifestyle change and one I am grateful for beginning. Above all else MCFSA is a family. They are here to help you. The coaches and fellow CrossFitters truly care for each other. Everyone is encouraging and wants you to get involved within class, competitions, and social events. It is from this, I have been able to gain lifelong friends, and can say without a doubt that the individuals at Mission CrossFit are part of my family.”

I remember the first time that I stepped into the old gym (for Drew’ 25th birthday party) and Drew did 15 muscle-ups in a row, and I did one. That was it…I one from then on that I wanted to work as hard as I could until I was able to do 15 in a row (I have made it to 7 so far!). “When I first moved to San Antonio, I started at a conventional gym and started to do some weightlifting. But over the time, I wasn’t making any friends and I realized that I suck at programming. So I decided to go back to CrossFit. The reason why I went to Mission is because I’ve read the reviews and it was because Travis Mash was coming to the gym for a seminar. What I remember from my first day, was that everyone was very welcoming. And I also remember the coaching and I was so amazed with the coaching with what they knew and certain cues they told certain students. I love the community. I’ve developed great relationships over the time at Mission. It’s one of the things I look forward to everyday. I usually spend way more time at the gym since I’m busy talking to everyone and having a great time. It’s pretty much my family in San Antonio. The second thing, is my progression. I never thought I would see myself in the 180 lbs category. With the coach’s knowledge on nutrition I was able to dial in my diet and realize what was good and bad for me.”

“I started going to Mission Crossfit San Antonio in 2017, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It has given me so much confidence and has helped me achieve things I never thought possible. Because of MCFSA, I have become stronger, improved my stamina, and reached my weight-loss goals. Learning how to do butterfly pull-ups, a movement that seemed impossible at first, has been my biggest accomplishment. Currently, I am working on mastering bar muscle-ups with Coach Meagan, and we are taking it one session at a time. One of my favorite memories is participating in the ALOTO competition with my friend Sarah. As a mother of two, I am always pushing myself to train harder not only for me but also for my kids. My motivation for training is to set a good example for my children, to live a healthier life, and to be strong enough to protect them.”

“February 17th of 2014 was the day I joined Crossfit. I weighed in at 330 pounds, I had my work cut out for me but, I knew I was ready for the challenge. Growing up with the word fat constantly being thrown at me and never finishing anything I started began to hurt me to my core. So, I decided the time was now I needed to turn my life around. I soon realized I was alone in this new endeavor with no support from anyone due to the financial commitment of Crossfit. But, I was ready and nothing else mattered. My initial goal was to lose 50 pound by my 21st birthday. I surpassed my goal and that was when I realized that I was hooked! I’ve seen amazing changes within myself and not just physically. Today, I am 91 pounds lighter and counting. This is the lightest I have been since 2009 and I couldn’t be happier. I want to inspire those who believe that they can’t, and if no one will be there to support you, you have yourself to count on. This year has brought nothing but great things into my life and I want to thank all of my coaches and the Crossfit community for pushing me every single day.
