December Athlete of the Month

December Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Yasmine Huerta for being selected as December’s Athlete of the Month. Yasmine has put in 3 years of hard work to get to where she is today. She teamed up with her 2 close friends to compete in her FIRST CrossFit competition this year at our very own A League of their Own. She’s always willing to push the envelope during the workouts, even when the Coach tells her to add more weight! For those reasons and many more she is deserving of the title of Athlete of the Month.

Story:I started CrossFit in 2015 for many reasons, but primarily because my sister suggested that I join. Up until about a year prior, I lived a very active and sport-filled lifestyle. I started playing soccer when I was 6 years old and played until I graduated high school. I was always working out and very active. I remember countless hours spent exercising in the excruciating heat of the summer. Going off to college disrupted my workout routine and healthy lifestyle. My first year of college was spent doing what most college kids do—having fun and not being as healthy as I should have been. It was a trying time for me and I kind of struggled a bit my first year. I had fun, but I didn’t feel that great physically. My sister strongly suggested that I try out CrossFit because she was doing it and she absolutely loved it. I was really intimidated by the concept when I first started, but once I started going I absolutely fell in love. It gave me the sense of community, belonging, and routine that I had been missing for a while. One of my favorite parts about CrossFit is that the coaches always pushed me to do better and to be better during each and every workout. Something else that sold me on this lifestyle change was the workouts in general. I love that they’re all different and I never know what to expect when I walk into the gym. The intensity and passion that is feel in the gym by every person who attends is addicting and it has benefitted my life in so many ways. My confidence has soared and I have never felt better about myself physically.
